5.13 "Some Like it Hoth"

Miles' connection to the island is revealed. Roger learns that Ben has vanished.

-So we jump right into it. Miles is Dr. Chang's son. In case you didn't recognize her, Lara is the same woman that was in bed with Dr. Chang in the season premiere. I know you love when I point this out but I TOTALLY called that. Go back and check if you don't believe me. LOL

-Mom tells Miles that he's supposed to be waiting by the pool. *sigh* No mother is going to tell her young child to "go wait by the pool". Duh.

-What exactly does Miles expect to get out of that vending machine with a quarter? Doesn't matter... he's having a vision.

-In Korea, Japan and China the number 4 is considered bad luck. It's even the homonym for the word "death". The room where Little Miles finds the dead man was #4.

-This is either the first time Miles "powers" work or just the first time he's told him mother about them because she seems genuinely freaked out.

-Sawyer asks Miles to erase the tape from security camera #4. Hmmm... what number?

-"The Circle of Trust". Are you kidding me?

-Are we getting closer to the episode where Radzinsky shots himself in the head yet... because I won't be sad when that day arrives. Gah!

-I know it all works out just fine, but I still think Miles should have maybe driven up the road a bit before he ripped open the body bag and started chatting with the dead guy. Radzinsky could bounce out of the jungle at any time.

-Wait? Miles mother still rented an apartment where her son was traumatized. What's with the mothers on this show?

-Ok, what's with the flashback costume and makeup? If Lara rented that apartment in 1985, Miles is well past the Flock of Seagulls, Lost Boys hair-dos. The piercing... ok, those I can deal with but the hair? Com'on.

-Miles mother is apparently dying. At first I'm thinking the loss of hair may be due to chemo but now I'm wondering if it has anything to do with exposure to one Jughead. Hmmm...

-Miles jumps right into the Who am I? What am I? Who's yer daddy? I mean, who's my daddy? Maybe a little "How do you feel? I love you Mom" would be nice for the dying woman. Anyway, looks like Daddy booted them and then died. Miles wants to know where his body is. If Mommy won't tell him why he can talk to dead people, he'll ask dead daddy. "Somewhere you can never go". Jokes on you Ma'.

-Roger's yelling at Juliet and Kate because Little Ben is missing... "You're his doctors! You're supposed to watch him!". Of course he assumes Kate's a doctor too because she's in the motor pool. Who wouldn't.

-How do you spell bounty hunter? Again, com'on! Who can't spell bounty hunter? Now, if he'd asked how to spell Obi-Wan Kenobi, now that'd make sense. I'm guessing that the writers were trying to throw us off and make us think that Hurley was writing about his experiences, since there was a bounty hunter on the plane but even then he could have asked how to spell Jabba the Hutt since Sawyer's used it as a nickname for him.

-So, Alverez had a filling blow right through his head. Ouch.

-Again, Hurley and Miles' banter cracks me up. I could watch a show based around just the two of them. Kind of reminds me of the Odd Couple. They compare their chats with the dead. Miles can just kind of read their final thoughts where Hurley has conversations with their ghosts. Well, conversations and games of checkers.

-Um, they spread some dead kids ashes over the high school football field. There's no way in hell any kids are going to step foot on that field again.

-Miles tells Mr. Gray that speaking with dead people works better when there's a body. We know that he's done it with and without but now we know it works better with the body.

-Since Hurley shared his "I see dead people" story with Miles, Miles apparently feels comfortable enough to share his "that douche is my dad" story with him. See how much we learn when people just open up?

-So Widmore is behind the fake airplane! WOW! That's a huge reveal. I feel like we've been holding on to that one forever.

-How weird and totally cool must it have been for Miles to see his Mom? I wonder if he talked to her? It's been 3 years, you'd think he must have.

-How many effin' Miles' do you know? Do you really think it's just a coincidence that there are two KOREAN ones on this island?

-So it looks like the Swan is being built on Other's territory. I wonder why? Is it because they found the electromagnetic-ness there from the Jughead the Other's buried and think it's some kind of special spot?

-How awesome is it that Hurley saw them put the numbers on the hatch? If it's just the serial number is that where they started?

-Ilana's goon, Bram, kidnaps Miles (and totally ruins his fish taco) and tries to get him to stay away from the island. But the important part is that he (and Ilana) don't work for Widmore. So who the heck do they work for?

-Notice Bram calls him "my friend"? Just like Caesar kept doing when Locke noted that though he calls people "friend" he doesn't mean it. Wonder if Caesar was one of them even though he pretended not to know Ilana on the plane.

-Bram asks Miles the same "shadow" question. Miles doesn't know either but it doesn't warrant him a knock on the head.

-Miles tells Bram he'll go with him for $3.2 million. Funny thing here... Miles also asked for that exact amount from Ben to fake Ben's death when the freighter peeps were after him.

-Looks like Jack has happily given up his leadership role. He passes along the Roger-thinks-Kate-knows-something info and moves on with his life.

-When Sawyer knocked Phil over the head it looked like it did a little somethin' somethin' for Juliet. ;-)

-Speaking of knocking Phil out... was there no other way to work out their issues. Their cover is definitely blown now. No going back.

-When Hurley was recapping the father/son relationship between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader I realized that not only does Luke loses his hand but there is speculation that Chang will eventually lose the use of his left arm based on the lack of movement in a few of the later DHARMA videos. Connection?

-Daddy Chang seems to adore his little Miles. Did Mommy Chang lie? I'm wondering if maybe Miles has something to do with Mommy and baby leaving the island. Did he convince Daddy Chang to give them the boot to save them from the "war" or the purge? How weird would that be?

-Dan's back!! Yeah! He didn't go crazy! I'm so excited to find out where he's been and what he's been doing.

FYI - Our next episode is the 100th Lost episode. I'm betting it's going to be HUGE!

5.12 "Dead is Dead"

The story of Ben and Widmore past is revealed.

-I'm kind of surprised that young Charles doesn't know that Little Ben wouldn't remember what happened to him. Richard knew he wouldn't remember. Maybe it's more Richard's temple than it is "our temple".

-Locke didn't wake Ben last time; Ben woke all on his own.

-The crate. WTH is in it? "just some stuff we need to move" huh? I wonder if Ben really knows. He almost drops it too quick and easily. What do you think it is? It could be guns for the upcoming "war" but it's certainly large enough to be holding a body. Some airlines do put caskets in "air trays" but they're usually wooden; but some can be metal. If it is a body, who's is it? There is some speculation that Locke IS dead and the Locke we've seen is really Smokey. Could they have put Locke's coffin in an air tray to ensure he didn't come back like Christian? The episode is name "dead is dead" afterall, could they be trying to tell us something? Also, when we did see Smokey at the end of this episode, Locke was conveniently absent only to pop in as soon as Smokey was gone. Quite remenicant of Clark Kent appearing just after Superman flew away.

-Love how Ceasar thinks he's the big man on campus. Dork.

-What were they thinking? That's the best they can do at making Ben look 24 years old? A comb-over and Boy Scout uniform? Unbelievable. As wonderful an actor Michael Emerson is... even he can't pull this off.

-Seems they knew nothing about baby Alex huh? Maybe they don't have a thing for children on this island. (Or maybe they do since Widmore didn't dare kill her.) And looks like Ben wasn't always terrible. He didn't kill Danielle when he was told to but then again, he did kidnap her baby.

-And didn't Danielle say that she saw smoke just before Alex was kidnapped? Was it before she went to bed? Was it just the smoke from their camp?

-And what of the whispers Ben warned her of? We need more on that ol' Benny boy.

-I think it's great that Ben didn't bother lying to Locke about why he killed him. "You had critical information that would have died with you" and "Well, I just didn't have time to talk you back into hanging yourself." I'm sure he left stuff out, but he fessed up to everything we already knew.

-I'm happy to see "Island Locke" back. I don't much care for "Mainland Locke".

-I was so expecting the outrigger to outrigger gun battle on the way over to the main island. Bummer. I'm now betting that Ilana and her gang will be the ones to take the last outrigger and will be involved in the shoot out. I'm excited to see which one of them Juliet takes out.

-Inside Ben's house every looks the same, even the game of Risk is still set up just as it was the last time we were "there"; the night Alex died. Meaning this isn't an alternate future.

-As much as they tried to lead up to something big, I wasn't the least bit surprised to see Sun in Ben's house.

-Ben looked surprised to both see the 1977 photo with the Losties in it and to hear Christian's name. Of course, it's hard to tell when he's really surprised isn't it.

-When Ben pulls the plug in Smokey's little mud puddle, the water drains clockwise. Just thought you'd like to know.

-Charles is being escorted off the island. How is this "tricking" him like he told Locke?

-He had a daughter with an outsider huh? Must be Penny. Or so we think, right?

-And he leaves "regularly". Doesn't everyone?

-Funny how Ben tells Sun to go inside because what's coming out of the jungle "he can't control". We assume he's talking about Smokey but instead it's someone else he can't control; Locke.

-Where'd Locke go and why does he now know where to find Smokey?

-Some date confusion here... based on speculation, the purge occured in 1992. This date has yet to be confirmed on the show but Horace mentions to Locke, in his dream, that he'd been dead for 12 years. Since he died in the purge, that would have been 1992. Anyway... Widmore says he's been trying to get back to the island for "almost 20 years". 1992 (or later) to 2007 = 15 years, at most. Is he rounding WAY up or is there more to his quote?

-Ok. So the place where Richard took Little Ben was the "wall" that surrounds "their" temple. Ben knows this now. Does he remember or was he told?

-Ben asks Sun to tell Des that's he sorry. OMG.. for what?!? Hold your breath because we're about to find out...

Ben starts out by shooting Des. Wait, where's the blood? Could he have a bullet proof vest in that grocery bag or is the island just "not done with him"? Next, it's Penny's turn. While trying to convince Ben that she has no relationship with her father, one "Charlie" comes up to deck. We know he's named after our Charlie but as far as Ben knows, he's his Grandpa's namesake. Again, Ben proves himself not to be such a bad guy and doesn't shoot once he sees the child, much like he spared Danielle's life. Then Des' beats his ass to a pulp. Yay!

Anyone else get the feeling that this Charlie is our Charlie? Do Des and Penny bring him to the island so he'll be back in 1977 and grow up to be one Charlie Pace?

-"What lies in the shadow of the statue?" Boy oh boy. We're over the "who's obituary" thing so they need to give us something else huh? There are SO many ways to read into this. We'll start with the obvious, the statue, we'll all assume, is the 4-toed statue. What lies in it's shadow? The Orchid? The temple? The Lefties were standing at the well (later to be the location of the Orchid) when they passed through the statue's time. A little less obvious, maybe the shadow is Smokey. Or maybe it's not a question at all but rather a code. Maybe, whoever Ilana's "with" has a code word and that's what she's looking for from Frank. I did a little research on "shadows" as far as Egyptian mythology goes and this is what I found:

A person's shadow, Sheut (šwt in Egyptian), was always present. It was believed that a person could not exist without a shadow, nor a shadow without a person, therefore, Egyptians surmised that a shadow contained something of the person it represents. For this reason statues of people and deities were sometimes referred to as their shadows.

The shadow was represented graphically as a small human figure painted completely black as well, as a figure of death, or servant of Anubis.

Maybe this is reading into it WAY too much but you never know.

-Where's Sun? Why didn't she climb under the wall with Locke and Ben?

-There are Egyptian hieroglyphs EVERYWHERE in the chamber. I've yet to see any translation of them but if I do, I'll post it on the home page.

-The one above where Smokey comes out appears to be Anubis (the forementioned God in the Shadow description) kneeling down with Smokey. He appears to be either taking something from him or giving something to him. I'm guessing he's taking the souls of those Smokey has judged since Anubis is the God of the Dead.

-Smokey (via Alex skin) warns Ben not to kill Locke, like he's planning. He promises that he won't. Is he lying, yet again? He's seems pretty scared... don't think he's lying.

5.11 "Whatever Happened, Happened"

Kate goes to extremes to save Little Ben's life and we learn what happened to Aaron.

-I must need my eyes checked. Jin seems much closer to Ben's body then he was at the end of "He's Our You" and, wait, didn't Sayid shoot Little Ben on the left side? Why's the bullet hole on the right side now. That's an awfully big mistake on the make-up department's part. Could it be that it's not Little Ben's time to die so the island moved the bullet hole from his heart? Eh, probably not.

-Why didn't Jin say "Man Down! Man Down!" to Phil over the radio? They could have had Juliet prepped and waiting when he got to Dharmaville.

-Ben's alive. It's been a while since I did these, but I'm pretty sure I called that.

-It's funny to see all those DHARMA jumpsuits running around cleaning up after the blazing bus. Just an observation.

-WTH is Jack questioning how Sayid got out? Dumb ass. Even Hurley gives him a "dumb ass" look.

-Kate likes Patsy Cline. We've heard her listening to her before in flashbacks. Did you know Patsy Cline died in a plane crash?

-Why is Kate singing Catch a Falling Star?!?! That's the song Claire asked the potential adoptive parents to sing to Aaron because her father (Christian Shepard) sang it to her as a child. Why would Kate be singing it? Gotta' be a connection.

-Hello Cassidy. Oh Kate! So excited to see you! Sawyer sent me. SLAM!

-Why is Clementine in a crib? Wouldn't she be like 3 years old now?

-WTH is Kate telling her everything? Hurley telling him mom, that I can understand but this? Nope. When Kate met Cassidy she was conning people, not quite the trust-worthy type if you ask me.

-And, holy crap, Cassidy is being a b!tch to Kate. 5 minutes ago she thought the father of her child died in a plane crash, she finds out he didn't and totally takes it out on Kate. I'd take my money and stolen baby and leave.

-Juliet's trying to operate on Little Ben but can't find a uterus in there anywhere. Saywer comes in and she's all "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a doctor". Aw crap, Sawyer *needs* Jack for something.

-If the DHARMA doctor's at the Looking Glass why don't they just go get him?

-Over in house-arrest-but-not-house-arrest Hurley and Miles have the A+ #1 conversation in the history of Lost. The Back to the Future talk. OMG... hilarious! Hurley just said everything every single Lost fan has been asking for weeks now. Miles gives us a bit of understanding to the whole thing. BTW, I'm loving Miles. It's almost like we have 2 Sawyer's now.

-"Then he'll die". Jack's an ass. Hey, isn't that the second time I've called him that today?

-Why does Juliet roll her eyes with everything she says? It's really getting on my nerves.

-Why would Juliet think the Others could do anything to help? They live in tents in the jungle. Maybe it's because Richard is ageless?

-You'd think that a bumpy ride in the back of a VW Van would kill off the kid that was just about dead in a sterile hospital-type environment, wouldn't you? Nope, not his time I guess.

-It's the Marina scene.. again... after Kate leaves with Aaron she stops at the grocery store to get him some milk. They don't have any 24 hour drive-thrus in CA huh? She loses him. My heart was racing through this entire scene... a mother's worst nightmare! She finds him with some creepy blonde who says she was bringing him to someone to make an announcement. I'm not sure I believe her (I don't think Kate does either). She hugs Aaron until he pops. JK.

-Kate pulls up to the pylons. Oops, Juliet forgot to give her the code. Now what? Oh look, there's Sawyer to save the day. What a co-inky-dink.

-I can not believe Kate is still friends with Cassidy. She was such a b!tch to her. *shakes head*

-I don't buy the whole, you lost Sawyer and used Aaron as a replacement crap. That's dumb.

-Awww... Sawyer's doing this for Juliet. His subtle way of saying no more Skater.

-The entire Jack/Juliet bathroom scene was dumb. Nothing more came of it then Juliet seeing Jack nekkid and keeping up their side of this stupid love-square thingy. Dumb.

-Why's Carole so b!tchy to Kate when she answers the door? She has no reason to be... yet.

-So, Kate loses Aaron in the supermarket and freaks out about it. Then she leaves him alone in a hotel room while she goes to visit Carole. *Then* she just leaves without even introducing him to his Grandmother. I can see why she's giving up on this whole mother thing. She sucks.

-Kate's going back to find Claire. I think I called that too.

-Kate actually got to me in her goodbye scene. Applause to Evangeline.

-Where the heck is Carole? Any self respecting grandmother would have been sitting right outside that door, pushing her way through to see her grandchild.

-Ooo... no-name Other mentioned Ellie and Charles! Cool! But Richard doesn't care about them. Even cooler!

-So let me get this straight. Had Jack operated on Little Ben he wouldn't be the monster he is today. Because he refused, Little Ben became "one of" them. Very interesting.

-Big Ben awakes from his oar-induced coma to see a very much alive Locke sitting by his bedside. "Welcome to the land of the living."
